The Story
“Stand the Test of Time” serves as the emotional heart of Tomorrow’s Game, an upbeat Latin-infused dance track that mirrors the film’s journey through memory, sacrifice, and belonging. Written and performed by lionel Cohen and Stefni Valencia, and produced by lionel Cohen, the song was crafted to give voice to the universal truth at the film’s core: that family, once forged, endures.
“The song was created to encapsulate the spirit of this award-winning family film about a Dominican boy who comes to understand the value of family through the hardships of his seniors.”
On the day of his Uncle’s ascendance into the Hall of Fame, Daniel is forced to embark on a journey through time — restoring his family’s legacy and rewriting baseball history. It is a story of courage, of heritage, and of everything worth fighting to preserve.
Recognition
At the 13th Hollywood Music in Media Awards, held on November 16, 2022, lionel Cohen and Stefni Valencia earned a nomination for “Stand the Test of Time” in the Best Original Song – Independent Film category — standing alongside some of the most celebrated names in contemporary songwriting.
To be nominated alongside David Byrne and Mitski for Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Rita Wilson for A Man Called Otto, was a genuine honour — a testament to the emotional resonance “Stand the Test of Time” achieved on its own terms as an independent film song. And to ultimately lose to Diane Warren — one of the most decorated songwriters in Hollywood history — is itself a distinction. Her win for “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, performed by Sofia Carson, was thoroughly deserved.
