The Case

Mob Town (2019) is a gripping crime drama based on the infamous 1957 Apalachin meeting, where the heads of the nation's most powerful crime families descended upon a small, unsuspecting town in upstate New York. The film follows the vigilant local police sergeant, Ed Croswell, as he uncovers the gathering, leading to the largest and most significant raid in U.S. history. This single event forever changed the FBI’s perspective on organized crime in America.

The Score

Composer Lionel Cohen crafts a score that serves as the heartbeat of the investigation. Drawing heavily from the 1950s noir aesthetic, Cohen employs sharp, rhythmic string spiccato, driving percussion, and low-end synth pulses to mirror the paranoia and tension of the stakeout. The score transitions from the quiet, small-town suspense of a local cop on the beat to the full-throttle, high-stakes adrenaline of the raid itself, perfectly capturing the collision between the rural landscape and the brutal reality of the Mafia.

The Future of Rock N Roll Album

To capture the authentic cultural atmosphere of the 1950s, The Transmissions wrote and recorded an entire album's worth of original Rock N Roll source music for the film, titled The Future of Rock N Roll.

The production is a masterclass in period emulation, utilizing a precise blend of original vintage gear and modern emulation plugins. Staying true to the fidelity of the era, the entire album was mixed in mono, providing a visceral, era-authentic sound that feels like a needle dropping on a dusty 45.
