Twenty meditations on earth, memory, and the human condition — voiced through percussion and breath drawn from the far ends of the world. No borders. No clichés. Only rhythm, silence, and what endures.
The Album
Wounds of Wisdom is a documentary world music journey in sound — a collection of instrumental pieces that listen before they speak. Composer and multi-instrumentalist lionel Cohen has gathered percussive voices from across continents: the resonance of West African djembes, the rhythmic logic of South Asian tabla, the drone of Central Asian frame drums, the subtle breath of East Asian melodic percussion.
Regional sounds are treated equally according to their sonic value, nothing else. No culture is window dressing for another's narrative. Each rhythm stands in its own right — and by standing together, they say something none could say alone.
Each track carries the imprint of a geography that knows no political borders. The music moves freely between North Africa, the Levant, the Indian subcontinent, and the Far East — not as tourism, but as deep listening.
The production ethos is minimal and true. Driving forward — each track is a self-contained journey. Space is never filled for its own sake. What you hear is what was played.
